Professor Getatchew Haile was an inspiration to so many across the world, including right here in Minnesota where he proudly worked at Saint John's University for more than four decades. His scholarship in Ethiopian Studies was groundbreaking, and he was instrumental in bolstering our understanding of his beloved country’s culture and language. The first Ethiopian to receive a MacArthur fellowship, Professor Getatchew’s achievements, commitment, and bravery were a beacon to all who knew him. His legacy will live on through the generations of students that will benefit from his work and scholarship. He will be missed.
